Information we collect and why

Email list and phrase book

If you sign up for the T.E.A. Time Phrase Book or episode updates, we collect your email address and, if you choose to provide it, your first name. We also keep information showing when and how you subscribed and confirmed your subscription.

We use this information to:

  • send the T.E.A. Time Phrase Book;
  • notify you when a new episode is published;
  • manage subscriptions, unsubscribes, bounces, and delivery problems; and
  • maintain evidence of consent and protect the email list from abuse.

Signing up is optional. We use your information for these emails only after you actively consent and confirm your email address through the double opt-in process. You can withdraw your consent at any time by using the unsubscribe link in an email or contacting us.

The signup form and email list are operated through Brevo. Information submitted through the form is transferred to and processed by Brevo on our behalf. Brevo may also process email-delivery and engagement information, such as delivery status, bounces, unsubscribes, and, where available, opens or link clicks. You can read Brevo’s privacy policy at https://www.brevo.com/legal/privacypolicy/.

Comments

When visitors leave comments, we collect the information shown in the comment form, along with the visitor’s IP address and browser user-agent string, to help detect spam and protect the site.

An anonymized string created from your email address, sometimes called a hash, may be provided to the Gravatar service to determine whether you use it. Automattic’s privacy policy is available at https://automattic.com/privacy/. After a comment is approved, any associated profile picture may be publicly visible with the comment.

Direct communications

If you contact us by email or another direct method, we collect the information you provide so we can respond to your request and keep an appropriate record of the conversation.

Technical and security information

When you visit the site, the website and hosting provider may process technical information such as your IP address, browser type, device information, requested pages, referring page, and the date and time of the request. This information is used to deliver the site, diagnose problems, maintain security, prevent abuse, and keep server logs.

reCAPTCHA and spam protection

The email signup form uses Google reCAPTCHA to distinguish people from automated submissions and prevent spam and abuse. When reCAPTCHA runs, Google may process technical and interaction information associated with your browser, device, connection, and use of the form. reCAPTCHA may set the necessary _GRECAPTCHA cookie for its risk analysis. Google processes this information to provide security, fraud-prevention, and abuse-prevention services. More information is available in Google’s reCAPTCHA documentation at https://docs.cloud.google.com/recaptcha/docs/faq.

Cookies

The site may use the following cookies:

  • If you leave a comment, you may choose to save your name, email address, and website in cookies so you do not have to enter them again for another comment. These cookies generally last for one year.
  • WordPress sets temporary and functional cookies for administrators or other authorized users who log in. These cookies support login sessions, security, and display preferences.
  • Google reCAPTCHA may set the necessary _GRECAPTCHA cookie when the protected signup form is used.
  • Embedded content or third-party services may set their own cookies when you interact with them, subject to those providers’ policies.

Embedded content and external links

Pages may include or link to content from other websites or services, such as podcast platforms, audio players, images, videos, or social networks. Embedded content may behave as though you visited the provider directly. Those providers may collect information, use cookies, and record your interaction according to their own privacy policies. Following an external link also takes you to a service controlled by someone else.

Who we share information with

We share personal information only as needed to operate and protect the site and email list. Service providers may include:

  • Brevo, which hosts the signup form, stores subscriber information and consent records, and sends emails;
  • Google reCAPTCHA, which helps prevent automated submissions and abuse;
  • SiteGround, which hosts the website and may process server and security logs;
  • Automattic/Gravatar, when the comment and profile-image features are used; and
  • other technical providers used for security, spam detection, site operation, or legal compliance.

We may also disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law, enforce our rights, prevent fraud or abuse, or protect the safety of the site and its users. We do not sell or rent personal information.

How long we retain information

  • Email-list information is kept while you are subscribed. After you unsubscribe, we may retain a limited suppression record so we can honor the opt-out, along with consent or delivery records for as long as reasonably necessary for compliance, security, and dispute resolution.
  • Comments and their metadata may be retained indefinitely so follow-up comments can be recognized and moderated.
  • Direct communications are retained only as long as reasonably necessary to respond, maintain appropriate records, or meet legal obligations.
  • Technical and security logs are retained according to operational, security, and hosting requirements.

Your choices and rights

You may:

  • unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time using the link included in each email;
  • ask what personal information we hold about you;
  • ask us to correct, export, or delete your personal information;
  • withdraw consent or object to certain uses of your information; and
  • request restriction of processing where applicable.

Some information may be retained when required for legal, administrative, security, or opt-out compliance purposes. Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to complain to your local data-protection authority.

To make a request, email teacher@tayvinbayless.com. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request.

International processing

Our service providers may process information in countries other than the one where you live. When required, we rely on the providers’ contractual and legal safeguards for these transfers.
